BIOGRAPHY
Michigan Sāhanā, formerly known as Indian Classical Music & Dance, was created in the Winter semester of 2003. The group is composed of University of Michigan students displaying Indian classical dance, and placing an emphasis on the appreciation and performance of traditional forms of Indian art.
The performances of Michigan Sāhanā serve to continue fostering India’s rich history of music and dance. The group hosts unique concerts and have featured a diverse set of artists from Hindustani and Carnatic musicians, and other performers displaying many different styles of Indian classical dance.
Michigan Sāhanā strives to fulfill three goals they have outlined in order to create a thriving environment for Indian classical performers at the school. From increasing the awareness of Indian classical dance as an art form, on and off campus, to cultivating talent among dancers, and lastly choreographing quality performances, the group has worked for many years to promote Indian culture at the University of Michigan.
